2022 Your SMART Goals and Mine

The New Years celebration is a time around the world to celebrate making it through another calendar year and for a lot, it’s a time of reflection and adjustment. Creatives often have goals they wish to accomplish and I’m no different, below are resources for goal setting for this year as well as a list of my own goals for the year of 2022.

S.M.A.R.T Goals and your 2022

As defined by https://corporatefinanceinstitute.com/resources/knowledge/other/smart-goal/ , SMART goals are “ A SMART goal is used to help guide goal setting. SMART is an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely. Therefore, a SMART goal incorporates all of these criteria to help focus your efforts and increase the chances of achieving your goal.” (Read more using the link above)

Without SMART goals it’s much more difficult to reach and obtain the goals we set forth for ourselves. Here you will find a website that contains a list of templates to help you set your goals. Simply choose one that best fits your need: https://templatelab.com/smart-goals/

My New Years Resolutions

For those who are unaware, I’m a breakdancer and I got into the craft after being inspired by two professional dancers who go by the stage name “Les Twins”. The two are incredibly talented and creative and have pushed the envelope of hip-hop dancing and the perspective that dancers are more than just back-up entertainment.

Starting from the streets of Paris in an impoverished commune, the two have become successful international celebrities. I could go on and on about their accomplishments but then this blog would be a credential list – read more about them here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Twins

I was always in awe of their ability to captivate a crowd and bring joy and excitement to a room, and, tired of being too afraid to put myself out there, I began learning how to dance in 2013. It was announced in 2021 that breakdancing is officially a part of the Olympics in Paris, France 2024…the hometown of Les Twins.  Much like skateboarding in 2021 Tokyo, Japan Olympics, everyone who’s anyone in the dance world is going to be watching or be there around the event, and 32 lucky and talented Breakdancers from around the world (16 Men, 16 Women) will get a chance to compete for that coveted gold medal.

Les Twins have built themselves into a profitable brand. There is no scenario in which their brand won’t be doing events in their hometown around the major international crowd the Olympics will bring. If there was ever a “speak now or forever hold your peace” moment for me, this is it. I HAVE to be in those cyphers and dance events (I highly doubt I’ll be good enough to actually qualify and actually be IN the Olympics but I’d love to be in the crowd watching and networking with fellow dancers, creators, and sponsors).

But there’s a big problem

I’m facing a few major obstacles that will currently bar me from attending. For one, this will be an expensive endeavor, I’ll need at LEAST $5,000 to be able to do what I want to do over there in 2024. I’m going to start making moves this year to generate enough income to go.

Two, I’m out of shape/overweight, out of practice, have no dancer social media/marketing product, and don’t know French. Compared to the international professional dancers that will be in attendance (as well as their agents, sponsors, and marketers), I’m relatively a bum; a nobody, not worth their attention, not memorable. I’d never draw anyone’s praise or attention in my current state nor would I be able to interact with the French attendees. I need to make a change in my life immediately.

How am I supposed to compete with French International Breakdancer Bboy Lilou!?

I thought long and hard about how to go about this. For one, I’ll be  going on a diet and will find a place to practice breakdancing consistently. Two, I considered creating a new platform with a new mascot to represent this endeavor, and while many options would work, I believe the best course of action is to continue using King as the business mascot and synergize the platform.

Three, I need to study and create content around this passion and build up this platform to include more for those who are into the dance and performance genre, as well as art, writing, music, etc. I’ll write more on this in a separate blog.

In Conclusion

In conclusion, utilize SMART goals to optimally achieve whatever goal you are trying to do and make sure your sheet is always visible to you as a constant reminder of where you’re trying to go. If you get off track, don’t give up! The magic answer to your goals is simply time and consistency.

As for myself, I’ll be switching up the format of the platform so that I can be more efficient and productive. The weekly format of the blog was causing some issues with production when also doing things like an animated podcast. So from now on, blogs will be bi-weekly so that I’m able to focus on the quality of content being released.

Thank you all so much for your support, here’s to having an excellent 2022!
